WINDHOEK, July 24 (Xinhua) -- Namibian President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has reaffirmed the importance of peace and socio-economic transformation in Africa during a visit by Malik Agar, special envoy and deputy chairman of Sudan's Transitional Sovereign Council.
On Wednesday, Nandi-Ndaitwah emphasized that Africa should prioritize the socio-economic transformation of the continent to achieve the vision of a prosperous and integrated Africa as outlined in the African Union's (AU) Agenda 2063 and its implementation plan.
She also expressed disappointment with the slow progress of the AU's "Silencing the Guns" initiative, which aims to end all wars, prevent genocide, and promote peace on the continent.
"Socio-economic development and prosperity are impossible without lasting peace on the continent," the president said, stressing the urgent need for African countries to work together to achieve sustainable peace.
During the meeting, Agar briefed Nandi-Ndaitwah on the latest developments in Sudan amid ongoing political and security challenges.
Namibia and Sudan have maintained diplomatic relations since 1990 and have cooperated on multilateral peace and development efforts, including within the frameworks of the AU and the United Nations.
Namibia has previously dispatched troops to peacekeeping missions in Sudan, demonstrating its ongoing commitment to continental stability.
