Mauritius Jinfei Economic Trade and Cooperation Zone from Shanxi Province

The Mauritius Jinfei Economic Trade Cooperation Zone Project (Jinfei Project) is supported at the highest level by the Government of the People’s Republic of China and the Government of the Republic of Mauritius. In the “going-out” strategy of Chinese enterprises the Jinfei Project is one of the first economic zones development in Africa. Shareholders in the Jinfei Project include the Taiyuan Iron & Steel (Group) Company Ltd (TISCO), Shanxi Coking Coal Group Co.Ltd, and Shanxi Tianli Enterprise Co.Ltd from Shanxi Province, China.

 

The Jinfei Project implementation has started in September 2009. The investment in the cooperation zone is estimated at over RMB 4 billion. The project is being developed on 211 hectares of land and comprises the following components amongst others an industrial zone for high-tech manufacturing, stainless steel manufacturing, diamond processing – polishing and cutting, jewellery manufacturing, renewable energy products manufacturing & seafood processing, a logistics zone, a commercial street zone, business centre, hotel, education services, traditional Chinese health care & modern medicine, clinical trials, regional headquarters, financial services, ICT, green data centres, etc.

 

Mauritius serves as the ideal gateway between Asia and Africa. Mauritius has a network of Double Taxation Avoidance Agreements with 13 countries in Africa. The Cooperation Zone in Mauritius is positioned as the business platform for China into Africa. Chinese companies can set up their investment projects in the JFET Cooperation Zone to penertrate the regional SADC & COMESA markets which represent a potential of over 500 million consumers and also invest in Africa through Mauritius.
